Summer maxi dresses at Walk in Wardrobe
I don’t think anything says ‘summer goddess’ like a maxi dress does. My reasoning for this is that they are feminine, chic, comfortable and cool with their flowy, romantic skirts. We have stocked the most gorgeous designer long maxi dresses this year with the most vivid, colourful designs and fun prints in a dazzling array of bold multi colours such as blue, green, orange, coral and pink (to name a few!). With all the different designs we have, it would be truly impossible not to find one to your taste or to have too many in your wardrobe! Below are some of the questions we have been asked when customers have been considering a maxi dress:
Where can I wear a maxi dress?
Maxi dresses are renowned for their versatility and are fantastic beach to bar dresses. They can be worn as casual dresses on the beach or around town when shopping. Our customers have also loved wearing their tropical print maxi dresses on summer cruises and have told us that they received so many compliments when wearing their maxis. However, maxi dresses are not only reserved for casual wear. They are also fabulous dresses if you are attending a spring or summer wedding, or if you are going out for the evening.
What shoes shall I wear with a maxi dress?
If you’re wearing your maxi dress in the daytime and want a casual look, I love these dresses with flat gladiator sandals or flip flops for a fun and flirty summer look. If (like me) you are small and need a bit of extra height with a maxi dress, cork or espadrille rope wedges always look great and keep in with your effortless glam-but-casual look!
If you want to wear your maxi dress at an evening event or a formal wedding, go for a nice glamorous heel. Silver or gold shoes are great neutral colours which will go with any dress colour and they wont outshine a vibrant maxi. NB. if you are wearing a stiletto heel, make sure you go for a good heel height so your maxi dress is just off the floor – otherwise your heel could get caught and tear the hem of the dress.
What accessories go with a maxi dress?
Don’t make your maxi dress compete for attention with tonnes of jewellery, especially if there is a print on the dress. For the casual daytime look I love to accessorize my maxi with long boho necklaces, chunky bangles and rings. I also love a good hat, and think that a fedora or big brimmed floppy hat for that Sienna Miller look is fabulous!
If you are wearing your maxi dress in the evening and want to look glamorous, choose delicate jewellery which wont overpower the dress. For example, go for a simple necklace with a sparkly pendant, a delicate sparkly bracelet and a ring.

The preloved designer clothes sale is back at Walk in Wardrobe!
Walk in Wardrobe are thrilled to be restarting our designer resale section at the boutique! There are so many reasons why we love preloved designer clothes, and here are just a few of the reasons why:
Quality designer clothes, shoes and accessories without the hefty price tag.
Everyone loves a bargain, and when the words ‘designer’ and ‘cheap’ are put together, it’s like music to my ears! Taking advantage of our resale service as a customer means that you will be able to fill your wardrobe with top designer names such as Jimmy Choo, Dior and Gucci, or high quality boutique dresses and outfits such as Forever Unique and Sherri Hill. We vet all items in our preloved section very carefully, so you as a customer can feel rest assured that the preloved item you purchase will be in excellent condition.
Spreading the love by recycling.
I always find it difficult to throw away my quality clothing or pairs ofshoes I have loved dearly (even though I know I am not going to wear them again). So it does give me a great feeling of satisfaction knowing that my clothes have not been wasted, that they have gone to customers who understand the true value of quality clothing and also knowing that they will be loved by someone else!
Making some money.
Recycling your clothes with us is a fantastic way of making a bit of money! We act on an agency basis, meaning that you will leave your items for sale with us, we sell them on for you and take a commission when the items are sold. We then pay the money directly into your bank account. It’s a fabulously easy process and we do the hard work for you! We have a very high success rate with our agency outfits and accessories as we are a specialist boutique who focus on quality boutique clothing and designer clothing. Thus we naturally attract customers who are interested in purchasing these quality garments. If you do wish to sell your clothes, shoes and accessories through the boutique, please make sure that you have an authenticity card or proof of purchase with your item.
If you have any questions regarding our resale section, leave us a comment below or email us and a member of staff will happily get back to you.

Mother of the bride dresses at Walk in Wardrobe
Being the Mother of the Bride or Groom is one of the most exciting events in a mother’s life, so congratulations on your daughters/sons wedding! On this very special day you will be playing a big role, and because of who you are you will have special status, so you will have to look fabulous. We would like to offer a few tips on how to achieve this:
Start the search for you Mother of the Bride (MOB) outfit early.
Don’t leave it to the last minute as you are more likely to panic buy a dress which is not right for you.
Don’t feel that you can’t buy a dress because it is ‘too early’.
We have had a couple of ladies in the past who have fallen into this trap. These ladies found their perfect dresses a year in advance of the wedding, only to come back a few weeks before the wedding to find that the dress is out of stock. If you find your perfect MOB dress, snap it up as soon as you find it, because no matter how many other shops you look in, you can’t improve on perfection.
Don’t panic, seek help in the right places!
Our MOB section is a permanent fixture at the boutique and we always have a gorgeous range of MOB outfits in stock. Our team of experienced stylists are always happy to help mums find their perfect outfits.
Choose a figure flattering and personality co-ordinated style.
Our stylists will know exactly what style will suit your shape, and we take the time to get to know our customers so we will be able to find you a dress which will suit your personality to ensure that you feel confident and comfortable on the big day.
Choose your fabric.
We have a gorgeous selection of dresses in much sought after, quality fabrics such as Jacquard, taffeta, chiffon, lace, and stretchy bengaline. This is very much down to personal choice, so have a think about what you would feel comfortable in for the day and what you will be in charge of, for example, if you are going to be looking after your grandchildren, you might want to go for a bengaline which will give you free movement.
Choose a colour which will suit you.
We will be able to help you choose not only a colour which will suit you, but we will also be able to advise you on colours which will compliment the colour scheme of the wedding (neutral colours such as nude or champagne are always fantastic if you can’t find a perfect match). If we don’t have a particular colour in stock, we may be able to order a dress in for you in the colour you require.
Accessorise accordingly, take advantage of our hard work!
We’ve done most of the hard work for you by carefully selecting accessories which match our dresses such as shoes, fascinators and hats. If you want a different colour to what we have in stock, some of our hair fascinators can be made in different colours just for you!
Don’t forget that you can also rent your MOB suit or dress for the big day, so you can get that fabulous designer look for a fraction of the cost!
If you are a mother of the bride and need any extra help, please feel free to leave a comment below and we will get back to you!
Wild child: the celebrity animal print fashion trend for Spring/Summer
This Spring/Summer is the time to embrace your wild side and don the celebrity favourite – animal print, as adorned by celebs such as Alex Gerrard, Tulisa, Paris Hilton and Rhianna. At Walk in Wardrobe HQ we fully understand that animal prints can portray a sassy ‘roar’, or a tacky ‘mew’. We want to make sure that your urban safari is recognised for all the right reasons, so we thought we’d put together a few guidelines to help you on the way:
Animal print do’s and don’ts:
1) Let the print speak for itself. Don’t clutter it up and make it compete for attention with other animal prints or patterns and clashing colours.
2) Accessorize sensibly. For example, if you are wearing a complete outfit in leopard print don’t accessorize in kind, choose colours which will compliment it. We have found gold to be an excellent colour to go with leopard print as it keeps in with the earthy tones that leopard print is known for. If you are going with zebra print, accessorize with dark silvers and black shoes to give you a classy, evening feel.
3) Make sure you get your animal prints from a quality brand such as the ones we stock to ensure that the print does not look cheap or tacky.
4) Wear all prints with confidence – many animal prints are associated with predatory animals, so hold your head up high and give us a roar!
These are some of the fabulous animal print dresses we currently have at the boutique, click on the photos for more information:

Pastel shades for your perfect prom dress
There is only one way to describe the weather at the moment, and that is yucky. The weather is the most miserable shade of grey, but at Walk in Wardrobe we are optimistically counteracting this by having the most gorgeous pastel coloured dresses in stock. These pastel colours are really giving me a lift and are perfect for this season, giving ladies that whimsical, princess-like grace.
Our most popular pastel shades for prom girls are by far the nudes, champagnes and pastel pinks. It is easy to see why they are such a hot favourite amongst the girls as they are gorgeous delicate hues which can be fantastic if you want to accentuate skin tone and eyes.
However, although the pinks and nudes are undeniably spectacular, do not overlook mint green and lemon. Some of the prom girls have commented that the nude champagne colours can make them look washed out. However, I have regularly found that mint greens suit girls who can look washed out in the champagne shades, probably because of the bluey undertone this colour has as opposed to the yellow undertone of a champagne dress.
To top off this prom look, you can couple the pastel dresses with sparkly accessories to give them a regal, elegant feel. After all, it’s not often you get to be a princess!
What are your feelings on the new pastel shades which are donning every catwalk? Make sure you leave a comment below to let us know!
Beware of scam companies if buying your prom dress online!
We are gearing up for prom season at the boutique, and what a gorgeous array of dresses we have! We have top brands such as Forever Unique to ensure that all eyes are on you for prom (and for the right reasons!). However, once again we are getting prom girls into the boutique who mention that they are also considering buying made to order dresses online. I know that I did a blog entry on this issue last year, but with the surge of problems some of our customers had prior to shopping at Walk in Wardrobe with these online scammers I would like to try to help prevent the same situation happening to you.
In the latter part of our busy prom season we had so many prom girls at the boutique desperately asking us to ‘save the day’ as they had tried to purchase dresses from scam websites. Many of those companies were advertised as being based in the USA, but in reality they were based in China and were using illegal pictures of designer dresses to advertise their wares. Could you really part with your hard earned money and place your trust in a company who cannot even be honest about their location? Could they really be the company who will deliver you your perfect dress?
One customer complained that after they purchased a dress online which failed to turn up she unsuccessfully tried to repeatedly contact the company and she ended up losing £500! The company was completely uncontactable and untraceable. Others complained that they have gone through stressful situations where they have ordered a dress online and have found that the dress which arrived to their door looked completely different to the one which was advertised on the website where they have purchased it from. We cannot stress the importance of trying on prom dresses and it is important to remember that the dresses photographed on these websites could be hoax photos, or at least will be of models who have been pinned into the dress in order to fit their body shape. Just because the dress looks amazing on the model does not mean that the dress will look amazing on you!
Fortunately all staff at our boutique have clocked up many years of experience specifically in the prom industry and will be able to find you your perfect prom dress. We also offer a hiring service, so if costs are driving you to a cheap website, do consider this as an option as you can get that fabulous designer look for a fraction of the cost! Lastly, if you risk getting a dress from one of these websites it could leave you with little choice at the last minute. We never release the same dress to the same prom, so dresses are going to be getting booked up quickly!
If you are considering purchasing or hiring your dress online, make sure that you go with a reputable company such as ours. I promise that it will take out the stress of online shopping! Do not allow yourself to be scammed and to have your big day ruined. Remember, if the price is too good to be true, it probably isn’t.
A snippet of what’s in store for 2013 at Walk in Wardrobe
I would just like to start this post by wishing you all a very Happy Belated New Year! We have so many exciting projects in store for this year; there are two in particular I just can’t help but chatter about!
Project 1: out with the old (but still GORGEOUS dresses!), in with the new!
Our first project of the year was to hold the biggest (and might I add BEST!)
January sale we’ve ever had, with our top quality brands such as Forever Unique at ‘you’re robbing us blind’ prices starting at just £45! Please click here to see the range of sale dresses we currently have (and don’t leave it too late, once they’re gone, they’re gone!).
Our sale items are being replaced with our new, glitzy and glamorous prom dresses. It came as no surprise to us to see some very organised prom girls in late December looking for their sparkly dresses for the biggest night of their teen years. We can guarantee that all eyes will be on the girls who are wearing Walk in Wardrobe dresses on the big night, who could possibly force their eyes away from such dazzle?
Project 2: a brand new upgraded website to rival all others!
Working on the new website has created so much buzz and excitement amongst our team (as well as a lot of hard work!). Our new website will make it easier to hire online (including the ability to check date availability), purchase online, keep up to date with our fashion show events, style forecasts and of course, our blog. You will also be able to easily share the products you love on your favourite social media sites such as Pinterest (to follow us on Pinterest: www.pinterest.com/walkinwardrobe/). There will also be a separate resale section for customers to resell their pre-loved Walk in Wardrobe items. Most importantly, there will also be promotional codes for regular and loyal customers to get fantastic discounts!
The photo shoot for the new website happened last Saturday, and we would just like to say a big thank you to the models who will be featured on the website, firstly the highly experienced Lindsay Fergusson who once again delivered top quality posing and also to Kady Knight, a new, up and coming model, who did a fantastic job on her first big photo shoot. Thank you also to our photographer Stuart Butcher (www.cameyera.com, Twitter: @stuartbutcher1). This was our best photo shoot to date, so all you have to do is keep your eyes peeled to see the changeover! www.walk-in-wardrobe.co.uk
Our Christmas Event – Models in the window!
Greetings all, we hope you had a fabulously sparkly Christmas! Our Christmas certainly got off to a great start when we really caused a stir down Western Road with our notorious annual event, models in the window on Christmas Eve. This year we wanted to spread our festive cheer and really give something back to the community, so this year we did it in support of the Argus Appeal, a charity who work tirelessly to help those in need in our local community (http://www.theargus.co.uk/argusappeal/)
Thank you to all the passers by who gave us a wave and a smile! [slideshow]
Exclusive Club 15 Event at Walk in Wardrobe!
We at Walk in Wardrobe opened our doors once again to host an exclusive 15 Club event on the 7th December. We had a superb evening filled with bubbles, snacks, cakes and of course, sensational, show stopping dresses! The 15 Club is a group of business women in Brighton and Hove, committed to a sharing of ideas, networking and support for one another, pioneered by Sam Foster who arrived at the boutique looking glam with darling little twinkly diamantes around her eye. Guests were asked to choose a dress from the boutique and to participate in a fun fashion show competition, with glitzy hair candy and tasty prizes up for grabs! The lucky winner was Justine, who wowed the judges with her fun, flirty catwalk. Please see the slideshow for our pictures!
Thank you to all who turned up and for providing such a wonderful atmosphere, we had a great time and hope you did too! Thank you also to Stuart Butcher (www.cameyera.com) for agreeing to be our photographer for the evening and to the very dashing Dave at La Cave a Fromage (www.la-cave.co.uk), our favorite luxury cheese shop at 34-35 Western Road, Hove for providing the most gorgeously delicious cheese macaroons as a fashion show prize (I know the concept of a cheese macaroon sounds strange, but believe me, it really works!)
